Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT)
Reliable detection of surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials using magnetic fields and iron particles for enhanced visibility.
Request a QuoteWhat is Magnetic Particle Testing?
Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) is a non-destructive testing method used to detect surface and slightly subsurface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials such as iron, nickel, cobalt, and their alloys. The process involves magnetizing the component and applying ferromagnetic particles to the surface.
When a discontinuity is present, the magnetic flux leaks from the surface creating a local flux leakage field that attracts the magnetic particles, forming a visible indication. MPT is highly sensitive to surface-breaking cracks and is widely used in weld inspection.
- ✓ Detects surface and near-surface defects
- ✓ Fast and economical inspection
- ✓ Portable equipment available
- ✓ Immediate visual results
MPT Techniques We Offer
Comprehensive magnetic particle inspection using various techniques
Fluorescent MPT
Uses fluorescent magnetic particles viewed under UV light for enhanced sensitivity in detecting fine cracks and discontinuities.
Visible (Dry) MPT
Colored dry magnetic powder applied to magnetized surfaces for inspection in normal lighting conditions.
Wet MPT
Magnetic particles suspended in liquid carrier for improved particle mobility and indication formation.
AC/DC Magnetization
Various magnetization techniques including yoke, prods, and coil methods for different component geometries.
Industries We Serve with MPT
Automotive & Aerospace
Inspection of critical components including crankshafts, connecting rods, gears, landing gear, and structural parts for fatigue cracks.
Weld Inspection
Detection of surface-breaking cracks, lack of fusion, and other weld discontinuities in pressure vessels, pipelines, and structural welds.
Power Generation
Turbine blade inspection, rotor examination, and generator component testing for safe and reliable operation.
